Simon Paterson is a UK based musician and producer. He is a songwriter and performer with ‘Angels In The Architecture’ and ‘ed lamps’, and composes bespoke music for events, films and promos. He is also an esteemed bass / double bassist in the contemporary UK jazz scene. Furthermore, since 2006 Simon has been an Apple Certified Pro Trainer.
As an engineer & producer Simon Paterson has worked in many studios around the UK, working mostly out of ‘Yellow Arch’ in Sheffield, 'The Gatehouse', 'Confetti' and 'Sirkus' in Nottingham.
Learned trade working with many great and well-known bands, including 'The Charlatans', 'Intastella', Johnny Marr (The Smiths),The Chemical Brothers, and has worked with labels such as Arista, Dealmaker, Shiva, Ninja Tune, Glasgow Underground, Bocahito, EMI,Warners,Tru Thoughts, Out Da Ville, Island, Sony, London Records, Peace Feast,Tummy Touch, and Breastfed. Has appeared on records with the likes of Crazy P, amillionsons, Chaka Khan,Whitney Houston, Pooka, Waxploitation, Cabaret Voltaire.....
Recent work has included Kora (No.1 in New Zealand), mastering the two new 'Cabaret Voltaire' albums (released Jan '09 & May ’10), co-produced, mixed & mastered the Neon Heights LP 'You Make Love To Robots And You Wonder What People Are For', produced and mixed the Scrim LP 'Definitely The Red Wire' local boys 'The Hip Priests 'Tight'n'Exciting' LP, the new CD for Computer Man 'Death Of The Great Romantic',The Tivoli debut LP ‘National Service’ and forthcoming single ‘Rooftops’, mixed/mastered Mylo/Flatpac 'Sweet Child' CD, and some co-production and arrangements for the forthcoming ‘Max & Harvey’ LP for Ninja Tunes. Also forthcoming is the new Alberto Veto LP.
MUSIC TECH LECTURER
10 years teaching Music, Music Technology and Sound Design. A Certified Apple Pro and Apple Pro Trainer with many successful classes delivered over the past four years, and recently re-certified to deliver Logic Pro 9 Certification.
2006 - present: Regular Guest Lecturer for Leicester DeMontford University and regular training for Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies in Nottingham.
1999 - 2006 at New College Nottingham teaching Music Tech and Sound Design at Levels 3 and 4, led the Jazz Level 3 Qualification. and instrumental in a successful QAA for the HE Department.
Double Bass (also electric and acoustic bass) and/or Guitar & French Horn on sessions and a number of engagements weekly., for various jazz ensembles & for regular bands New Swing All Stars, Soul Jazz Review, Mood Indigo, Thom Whitworth Quartet, Pat McCarthy, Decent Chaps, Good Guys Big Band, Double Take, Swing Four, Midnight Masquerade, Charles Washington, amillionsons, Ben Martin, also Guitarist/Arranger/Band Leader with Angels In The Architecture.
Live appearances on main stages at Glastonbury (’95 & ’00), venues around Europe such as The Marquee,Thekla,The Heavenly Social, Rock City,The Bomb,The Underground,The Junction,The Blue Note, 333 Club, Sheffield City Hall,The Leadmill, Shepherds Bush Empire, Koko, Rescue Rooms, Dingwalls,The Lakeside, Bonnington Theatre, Djanogly Recital Hall, Newark Jazz Festival, also many gigs in Europe, esp. France, Italy, Jersey. Picked by Humphrey Littleton as part of trio to win ‘Jazz Buskers of the Year’ (1992, Snape Maltings),
Professional work with Suffolk Youth Orchestra and Suffolk Youth Jazz Orchestra both as musician and tutor. Have been 1st French Horn player in both Wolsey Orchestra (Suffolk) and Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra. Recent sessions include arranging and/or playing brass for Crazy P and ‘Max & Harvey’, forthcoming Ninja Tunes LP. Arranger and co-leader of ‘Sidewinder’ arts-council funded project integrating music technology with live performance.
